Mavicure Hills

Those are three enormous 250 meter-high rocks called Mavicure, Mono and Pajarito that work as an impressive lookout over the Guanía jungles. From these rocks, great extensions of jungle inhabited by the Puinaves indigenous communities can be seen.

When visiting this place you can navigate through the Inírida, Guaviare, Atabapo and Orinoco rivers. With an imposing view, the Inrírida river slithers amidst the hills, forming a majestic torrent. During summer, visitors can set up camp at the summit of one of the hills and on the white sand beaches that form around them.

Among the many destinations where you can go from this place, we have San Fernando de Atabapo in Venezuela, as well as the possibility of visiting some of the Remanso’s indigenous communities. Some of the activities you can do at Cerros de Mavecure include bird watching and photography, as well as fishing, water sports and nightime fish spotting by the bank of the Inírida river where you can see rays, blue runners, palometas (piranha-like fish), needlefish and armored catfish.

Upcoming scheduled dates:  June 20 to 23, July 5 to 8 and 19 to 22, August 16 to 19 of the year 2019

Itinerary:

Day 1: Morning flight Bogotá – Puerto Inírida. Sailing up the Inírida River towards the Mavecure hills. The hills are imposing rocks in the middle of the jungle with a panoramic view of  Guainía jungles. Visit to the Remanso community located not far from the hills. Accommodation in tent/hammocks in the community.

Day 2: Hiking through the trails surrounding the hills and climbing one of the hills. On the trails it is possible to appreciate the flower of the Inirida – the emblem of the region. Sunsets and sunrises from the hills allow you to appreciate the immensity of the jungle and the multicolored reflections in the rock. Return back to the community where we stay the night in tent/hammocks.

Day 3: Early tn the morning return back to Puerto Inirida by boat. After leaving our belongings in the hotel, we will naviga the Inírida River towards the place called La Estrella Fluvial del Sur. This is a confluence of 4 major rivers of the Amazon rainforest (Guaviare, Inirida, Atabapo and Orinoco). The rivers present great contrasts in colors and textures. Return to Puerto Inirida. On the way back we will stop in Cocos – the local indigenous community and handicrafts.  Night in a hotel in the small town of Inirida.

Day 4: Before we take our flight back home, we will go by boat to a small lagoon where we can appreciate a lot of fauna. We will also be visiting Laguna de las Brujas. Return to Puerto Inirida, flight back to Bogota.
