Deer watching in Chingaza National Park

Chingaza National Natural park is located 35 km east of Bogotá between Cundinamarca and Meta departments. It has an area of 53,385 hectares and altitudes from 2,800 to 4,050 m.a.s.l. It is a part of La Calera, Junín, Fómeque, Guasca, Gachetá, Medina, El Calvario and San Juanito municipalities. It conserves “páramo” ecosystems, lagoons and mountain forests. The climate is cold and its temperature vary between 4º and 20º Celsius.

Features

This activity is destined for deer watching in the regulated areas of Chingaza Natural Park. During the tour, the beautiful mountain landscapes with steep mountain peaks and frailejones stand out. We visit the Monteredondo sector (administrative headquarters of the park) and the Suasie trail, in the heart of the national park. The conservation programs of the last decade have allowed the repopulation of white-tailed deer that currently allow us to appreciate them in their natural habitat. We can also hope to observe the spectacled bear whose traces are quite often visible on the trails of the park.

Important

The population of white-tailed deer in Chingaza is high and the most common places to do the sighting are on the road (inside the park) and around the Monteredondo sector. This has been happening for about 15 years since there are the National Park´s facilities.

During the tour we will do a short trail called Suasie. The sighting is passive and at no time we disturb or affect the animals.
